Tha cuimhne air ann an saoghal phìobaireachd airson na mòran litrichean tuigseach agus ùghdarrasach a rinn e mu phìobaireachd a nochd anns an Oban Times eadar 1920 agus 1950, agus airson an cruinneachadh de cheòl pìoba bho 1939 leis an tiotal 120 Bagpipe Tunes Gleanings & Styles. Malcolm MacInnes M.A., LL.B. or Calum mac Iain ’c Nèill ’c Mhaol Mhoire ’c Iain ’c Mhaol Chaluim or ‘Calum Mòr (Big Calum)’ as he was more commonly known was an athlete, scholar, educator, writer, bàrd and composer of pipe music.

He is remembered in the world of piping for the many educated, authoritative articles on piping he wrote that appeared in the Oban times between the 1920s and 1950s and also for the collection of pipe music he published in 1939 entitled 120 Bagpipe Tunes Gleanings & Styles. Although there is almost 70 years since he passed away, he is well remembered by people as a talented, capable man, particularly on the Isle of Skye where he was born.

In this talk, the piper and piping scholar, Dr Decker Forrest, Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Gaelic and Traditional Music at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, UHI, will discuss the piping book that Calum published in 1939 and the style of piping it featured.

The talk will be delivered online through Zoom. Details for this will be sent out to attendees after registration.

Delivered in partnership with Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and the University of the Highlands and Islands
