In collaboration with Ionad Thròndairnis, there will be a community cèilidh with the 2021 Blas commission as a centrepiece with the wonderful Gaelic singer and songwriter Kim Carnie (Mànran, Staran). Buaidh nam Ban (Influence of Women) will mark the 200-year anniversary of Màiri Mhòr nan Òran (Big Mary of the Songs/Mary Macpherson); a nurse and prolific songwriter from Skye, known for her powerful songs of protest, praise, exile and hope. The commission will also celebrate the work of other great female bards of the Gàidhealtachd, including Sìleas na Ceapaich, Maighread Nighean Lachlainn and Mairi Nighean Alasdair Ruaidh, exploring their lives and challenges they faced fighting against injustice and for equality. Joining Kim on stage will be Megan Henderson, James MacIntosh, Sorren Maclean, Brian McAlpine & Cammy Maxwell.
