A-nochd, thig caraidean Mhurchaidh Iain MhicCoinnich còmhla gus 80 bliadhna den sheinneadair air leth seo a chomharrachadh. Bha ceòl ann an teaghlach Mhurchaidh Iain na Mol, a dh’àraich ann an Cros, agus bha iad gu h-àraidh dèidheil air a’ mheileòidian. B’ e Murchadh Iain aonan den fheadhainn a stèidhich Còmhlan Meileòidian Nis agus tha e gu mòr an sàs anns a’ chòmhlan.

Mar sheinneadair, choisinn Murchadh Iain Bonn Òr an t-Seann Nòis aig a’ Mhòd Nàiseanta ann an Steòrnabhagh ann an 1979 agus Bonn Òr a’ Chomuinn ann an 1989. Bhiodh e tric a seinn ‘s a cluiche aig cèilidhean is consartan thall sa bhos ‘s tha e air mòran taic is brosnachadh a thoirt do dh’òigridh Eilean Leòdhais aig a bheil ùidh shònraichte anns na h-òrain Ghàidhlig.

A-nochd cluinnear Donald Black & Donnie MacCoinnich, Còmhlan Meileòidian Nis, Seonaidh Beag MacMhaoilein, Christine Primrose agus eile

An evening with friends of Murdo John MacKenzie to celebrate the singer and melodeon player’s 80th birthday.

‘Murdo John na Mol’ was raised in Cross, Ness and music was an important feature of family life and in the wider community. The family were especially keen on the melodeon, and Murdo John is one of the founders of the Ness Melodeon Club, with whom he is still very much involved.

As a singer, he won the Traditional Mòd Gold Medal in Stornoway in 1979 and followed this with the Mod Gold Medal in 1989. Over the years Murdo John has sung at many cèilidhs and concerts across the country and appeared in London with the Highland’s and Island’s society. He was also a tutor with Fèis Taigh Dhonnchaidh in Habost, Ness very near to his home and has supported and given great encouragement to young singers in the community with a keen interest in Gaelic song to carry on the tradition.

Performing tonight will be: Donald Black & Donnie MacKenzie, The Ness Melodeon band, Seonaidh Beag Macmillan, Christine Primrose and others
